On July 9th at 7:00 p.m., the Center for Military History and Culture will host the opening of the traveling exhibition “The Shadow of the Sun,” a collection of large-format images that reflect, from a deeply human perspective, the experience of Barceló Foundation aid workers and volunteers in Africa.

Rather than focusing on the technical aspects of the projects on the ground, this exhibition focuses on the emotional and personal dimension of those who take part in these solidarity initiatives. Each photograph reveals fragments of life, encounters, and emotions, revealing the human impact of international cooperation.

Inspired by the narrative spirit of Polish journalist Ryszard Kapuściński (1932–2007), whose chronicles on Africa are already benchmarks of committed journalism, the exhibition offers a sensitive, intimate, and reflective look at the continent. The images, guided by his words, convey stories of resilience, dignity, and hope.

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to experience the daily reality of the African communities with which the Foundation works. Through this visual window, visitors will discover not only the cultural and scenic richness of Africa, but also the value of human encounters, beyond borders.

“The Shadow of the Sun” will be open to the public from July 9 to 26, 2025, at the Center for Military History and Culture (C/ San Miguel 69, Palma), Monday to Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

An opportunity to pause, look, and reflect on the transformative power of human commitment.
