At just 26 years old, Momi Maiga is a virtuoso on his instrument: the kora. His compositions stand out for their remarkable musical sensitivity and their fusion of ethnic jazz, flamenco, and traces of European classical music. He primarily sings in Mandinka and Wolof, addressing important issues of our time through music. After a successful start to his professional career with his debut album, NIO (2022), he now presents Kairo, his second album. It is a masterful fusion of musical genres and cultures in an amalgamation of acoustic sounds, along with meaningful compositions, prominently addressing the denunciation of various contemporary issues. The choice of the term kairo, which means “peace” in Mandinka, his native language, is representative of this exceptional musical work.
On this occasion, Momi will captivate us with his exquisite, powerful, and moving voice, always imbued with nuances taken from the traditional songs of the djelis of West Africa. With mastery and virtuosity, she will mesmerize us as she explores the kora’s twenty-two strings.
