Beauty and functionality in a historic space

Palacio Almudaina

Another cultural and monumental landmark in Palma. And another emblematic profile on the city’s skyline. The Palace of La Almudaina, located just next to the Cathedral is without doubt one of the most visited places in Palma. It is currently one of the residences of the Spanish royal family, and therefore the term ‘palace’ applies not only to its architectural beauty, but also its function. The building also testifies to the history of the city: it is of Roman origin, later modified by the Moors and subsequently adapted as a fortress.

Although some parts of the palace are closed to the public, other areas can be visited, and they offer a treat for the senses: the parade ground, the Gothic chapel of Santa Anna, the baths dating back to the Islamic period and the terraces, with spectacular views out to sea and the bay of Palma. In short… a royal palace.
