The forerunner of modernism and new hotels

Fachada Gran Hotel

Palma is a city sprinkled with modernist buildings. One of the most recognisable and emblematic of these is the Gran Hotel, the current home to Palma CaixaForum. Designed by the architect Lluís Domènech, it is one of the city’s first modernist buildings (1903). It was also a pioneering hotel on the island, as it was the first one to have electricity and a telephone.

Its interior is open to visitors as it hosts temporary exhibitions and it is home to a permanent exhibition that is a delight truly in keeping with the building: a collection by the modernist painter Hermen Anglada Camarasa.
