What is sound? When something hits something, why can I hear it from far away? Could we hear without air? We perceive the sound of the world around us thanks to the medium that allows it to propagate—air—even if we don’t realize it’s there. In addition to helping us breathe, it allows us to hear.
In this activity, we will explore how sound travels through space and through different media, using experiments and gadgets to transmit and observe vibrations.
This activity is recommended for ages 4 and up.
