The Cristo de la Sangre in the Iglesia de la Anunciación (Annunciation) church — the most worshipped image in Palma
Exploring a city means discovering and getting to know its cultural and social heritage. With this in mind, it is worth going to the Iglesia de la Anunciación (Annunciation of Our Lady) church to look beyond the welcoming and spacious building and visit the Sant Crist de la Sang (Holy Christ of the Blood), one of the most revered carvings in Palma and in all of Mallorca. To give you an idea: over 20,000 brotherhoods come together every Maundy Thursday to walk with the icon, carved in cork oak, in procession to the Cathedral of Mallorca. The carving, protected behind glass, can be seen by climbing some stairs.
If you have time, the beautiful Misericordia gardens are very close to the Iglesia de la Anunciación (Annunciation) parish church. Another option (instead of or as well as) is to then walk along the Rambla de Palma or to do some shopping on the neighbouring streets of Carrer de Oms or Carrer de Sant Miquel, which form part of one of the most traditional, vibrant and central areas of Palma: Plaça d’Espanya.
