Palma, walled city

Baluard des Príncep

Symbol of the medieval defence of the city

The Baluard des Príncep (the Prince’s Bastion) is a reclaimed space that reveals one of Palma’s key features. Some context: at the end of the 19th century, Palma was still a fortified city, with a wall almost 6 kilometres long and ten bastions. This bastion is named after Felipe II, who ordered it to be built in 1575.

Today, the Baluard des Príncep and the Baluard de Sant Pere, home to the Museu d'Art Modern i Contemporani, are the only examples of Renaissance military architecture that have stood the test of time. Are you going to miss it?
