Palma, walled city
Muralla Ses Voltes
The cultural value of the last stretch of the ramparts
It was the last section of the ramparts to be built and with it, the walled enclosure of Palma’s bastions was completed. It formerly served as the military barracks and, in the late eighties, the architect Elies Torres was commissioned to build an open-air theatre within the Renaissance ramparts.
Since 1985, Ses Voltes belongs to Palma City Council, and it is now an open-air civic and recreational space, located at the foot of the Cathedral where many and diverse cultural activities have and will continue to take place. It has over 1,000 m2 of exhibition space.
